Boy are we off topic !! Still Slide rules are valuable hand loaders tools. Sharps Complete Guide even has a chapter on calculations for loading using Slide Rules.

I learned to use one in High School then promptly forgot how to use any but simple circulars for navigation problems. Then I started watching Norwegian Cargo Superintendents and First Officers do stability calculations with a shirt pocket slide rule. Before the Norweagian ships working for American Companies they always used calculators. & had a big staff to make the calculations. Norwegians carried little baggage of any kind, staff included.

You can figure the effect of cargo's stowage quick and easy with variables like how much you can load in a hatch cubic wise, switch over the same load factors in another hatch or deck. Figure the weights, heights and effect on stabality much faster than punching in the numbers every time.

Cargo super used to figure stowage Ch Officer would double check his figures they would argue back and forth in Norwegian while sliding those rules the whole time. Interesting even if I only understood every 5th word. usually profane. I went back to using them even when not needed just to keep the skill up to date.

Now mostly use one for simple shop calculations. How many bullets per pound etc.

Boats

texasmac, a 15x54 Leblond is a serious machine, I'm thinking that the "oil pressure feed system" is for internal use only..ie.. to make sure the machie is well lubed while working, and the bearings get pleanty of pressurized oil.

John T

How about showing a pic of your set-up, I've got to build one for myself, need some ideas.

I would think the catch pan and filtration system would be the easy part, just use a spin on automotive type set-up.
The part that I dont know is the mating to the bore, how to keep the oil & pressure in the bore when the barrel is spinning.
V/R

Mike

Generally not, unless the 1894 barrel is a very late one and you are lucky. The 1894 barrel stub might not be a straight cylinder, and even if it is, it may require a shim or a piece of tubing soldered on to it to fit a 1915.

The replacement barrels from Numrich are in my experience, a pretty good fit for the 1915.

General Discussion - High power scopes.

Tests at Aberdeen P.G. show that 1X scope error is .500" group at 100 yards. Means that with perfect ammo and shooter and conditions, 1X scope makes average .500" 100 yard groups.
2.5X scope, .250" group
8X scope, .125" group
My guess is that above 20X at ranges to 200 yards, scope POWER makes little to no difference in group size, and no difference in score.
Shooters use what's popular, sometimes what's best is popular-sometimes not. There is NO $1200 scope that is 10X as good as a $110 scope.
The Weaver 36X T36 seems to be extremely good and a bargain compared to other scopes. I've had 2, and they're not for me.
I still like my 20X and 30X STS scopes.
joe b.

J Louis wrote Yesterday at 11:18pm:

If the old timers were still around what do you think they would be using, the best of the best or the out dated just to look good.

Power = points gained, you can't hold in an exact spot that you cannot see.Take a look at what the Jacketed Bench Rest shooters and RBR, ARA rimfire shooters are using and you would be hard pressed to find a Unertl, Supertarget Spot or anything under 36X on the line.

J.Louis
