Hello Jake,

The .22 WCF (.22 Winchester Centre Fire) was a small case round introduced in 1885 for very small game and vermin shooting. The case is very similar to, but not interchangeable with, the .22 Hornet which was developed from it.

Bullet weights are around 45 grains and with lead bullets velocities are around the 1,500-1,600 fps. Jacketed bullets can be pushed to 2,500 fps.

It's been obsolete for many years although you may find the odd box of ammo in the hands of cartridge collecting dealers. If I recollect correctly, John Barnes made jacketed bullets in the 45 grain range many years ago.

There may be someone about who is making the cases on a custom basis, but they aren't likely to be cheap.

EDITCustom made 22 WCF ammo is available from:-

Jake, the .22WCF has another hook. It has a .228 groove diameter bore. If you got one and shot it with .224 Jacketed bullets you would smoke the bore quickly. Bullet molds for .228 dia bullets have been made by both Ideal and then Lyman. I am not sure any are still offered by Lyman though. It was considered a squirrel/varmint caliber in its time but was a black powder cartridge. HTH Regards, FITZ. Smiley
