Enfield Martini Henry Mark IV sight adjustment

Am I missing something or is there no way to adjust for windage on these? Elevation is easy but I can't see how to adjust windage. Front and rear sights seem to be permanently fixed to the barrel.

No Windage adjustment. These weaopns we made at the end of the mass formation method of fighting wars.  You were  firing at an opposing military  formation.  If you hit the guy to the right of the guy you were you were aiming at that was just fine.

Thanks for the info. That is prety much what I thought but it always helps to know for sure. That is what I love about this website. People are always willing to share knowledge.
Mine seems to be grouping about 2 1/4" to the right at 25 yards. It was a little windy and I only had 3 rounds loaded. Need to get some more ammo together and a calm warm day to play some more. 85 grains of FFG and a 480 grain bullet kicks a little. Sure is fun to touch the old cannon off though!

So use 85 Grs of FG instead it more closely duplicates the original grade.

Where does  the bullet strike at 100 yards, or even better 200 yards.  Bullet strike at 25 yards with this rifle tells you only that the bullets are coming out of the barrel.

A Victorian Soldier would not consider it sporting to use anything less than a bayonet at 25 yards. Grin

You might find the way she is held makes a considerable difference in impact.  Big kickers jump away from solid.  Offhand it may well be fine windage wise.

Come to think of it, I am acutualy using Geox Cartridge Black Powder, not FF. Not sure how it relates to FF or F powder.
I always start out at 25 yards with any rifle. Got to at least hit the target to know where you are. Never thought of trying offhand. Tried one round a while back with 90 grains from a setting position and I think that one went to the left. The last three rounds were from a rest and were to the right. Wind can also be a factor on the hill I live on. The fun part is to shoot it a lot more. Need more ammo and more warm days.

I had a similar problem with my ME 303. Soft solder or epoxy a piece of hacksaw blade to the right side of the existing blade which extends about 0.030 above the blade.

This will initially lower the POI but just raise the rear slide to compensate. Mine shots went from printing 4" right at 50yds to dead center.

Should you wish to sell as original, a little heat and cleanup will restore.
