Peregrine/Miller stock Pics needed
02/02/10 at 10:00:52

I have a very nice Peregrine in 22RF, only thing the stock is neither offhand or bench. I have A Dakota Stock Duplicator so I'd like to get some ideas on a good stock design. I may just commit this as a bench gun, with the CP Donnely Barrel this is an unbelievable tack driver, but I'd like some ideas. Its always nice to drool over other guns anyway. Heres a pick of my gun with an english/black walnut graft line in the stock. Thanks, Pete     (And I know the scope is to far back, this stock is 14.5", way to long )

The Modern Schuetzen Rifle has some  good drawings of Miller & other stocks.   Send me a PM with your email address and I can send back some photos.  Might take a few days but glad to do it

Shalkaho, That's not a bad piece of wood, & there's plenty of it. I'd level off that cheek piece a bit (unless it fits you), get rid of the P/G cap & spacer, add a thick horn or ebony cap, figure what length fits you, cut & add small Swiss butt plate or a hard rubber (or plastic) butt plate. Shorten & reshape the fore end (maybe a slight schnable, ala Winchester or even an Alex Henry ala #1 Ruger). Then If it turns out well get it checkered. You'll be a happy man! Good Luck, ...MIKE...

I've got a Peregrine with a killer bench stock made by Carl Dede of Roanoke, VA.  I could probably get you a picture or two if you wish.  I will say it has to be a great stock because it shoots good scores for me, and I can't shoot bench rest!  Roll Eyes

Mike, I drew out A nice layout from an old bolt benchrest rifle I have, utilizing the wood from the Peregrine. So I'll probadley do that, and also maybe build another one for  offhand. Nice having the thru bolt to switch stocks easily.   Froggy, if you can send A pic, I'd appreciate it and I've said before theres others out there that like to see a nice gun and drool! Thanks guys, Pete

Pete, do like Mad Mike suggests. I think if it were checkered it would make a big difference. I'd leave the white spacers because I like them.
Needs a white spacer and a tip on the forestock too.  Wink  Looks a little out of balance without it.  Better move that scope ahead a little too.

Joe, To bad Herters is gone, they made white spacers that looked like lightning bolts. & don't forget that fore end tip should be at a 45 degree angle...Hey how about some inlays in the cheek piece?      ...MIKE...

Herters wasnt the only outfit offering white line spacers. Almost all rifles, store bought or otherwise had whiteline or Holly spacers. I like the double white lines too.  Now plastic spacers are awful. What really looked good was a double holly spacers. Holly is a soft off white.
In a hundred years gun enthusiasts will be trying to figure out what we used for those antique style white lines. What kind of glue did they use?

Lightning bolts?? COOOOOL!!!  I like inlays too. Why you can make a 2X4 look good with Holly spacers!
