Now Now Boats it is a shooter as well as a looker. Just treat like you would a Baby's Butt and wipe it till it's clean as Gail Schutleworth would say.

Boats,

She's a beauty! I really like the way you combined  bluing with colorcase for the action, instead of all one or the other.

BP the Case is all original. Block Lever Hammer and Trigger. I may have it re-cased but don't want it pimped up too much. It's not bad for 120 plus years old.

Plan was to Nickel the Swiss Butt Plate too. Had it blued so it would carry some finish while I made up my mind. Nickel may be too much sparkle.

Care to comment on the stock finish? That is a really beautiful color. Just enough red but not glaring. I like it.

Chuck,  If you ask 10 guys how to duplicate Winchester red stain you get 10 different answers.  All probably right. I did all sorts of research and never could make my mind up what to use.

Ended up taking to Millard Hixson on the phone. He said he could do a good job, so I left it at that. Never asked him what he used.  I have finished a bunch of stuff rifle stocks included and never had one turn out that good.

I am going to send one of my CPA's to Millard and this time will ask him about the finish, just so I will know.

Tapadera's N35 is what I've used to get the closest to original Win. stock color. Jim seems to have really gotten the color spot on. It can be built up to get the amount of red you like.
