I just came back from the store and read a gum mag that had some 2005 rifles in it. Looks like the winchester 1885 are gonna be those wsm in 25 and 30wsm and another wsm. Too bad, I was hoping for something in the 30-30 or 38-55 cal. looks like browning my be coming back out with there high-wall in some traditional cals like 270 and 30-06 etc..? that would be nice to see.

Spoke to a dealer in the Dallas area today.  He said his supplier had 16 new Win High Walls in stock.  He ordered two in .38-55 and one in .40-65, supposed to have them by the end of the week.  We shall see.  Price in the $1,150 range and up.

Thanks BJ; sounds like my prayers have been answered. What does everyone think of the winchesters? I have a 1885 win in .22lr and I love it. I know they are made in japan, but boy is it accurate! I can`t wait to get one in 38-55.

Don't know if the 2005's are the same as the 2004 model 1885's or not, have a 38/55 I purchsed last year and it is a real shooter, wish the trigger pull was more like my B-78 Browning though. Other item that is a easy fix is the short throat and sharp taper.  The long heavy bullets +280gr have to be so short seated that they are not really usuable in the stock rifle chambrer. But with the short 250gr PB bullet's cast 1 in 20, it will put ten of ten in 1" or less at 100yds using 18gr of H4227, bullet seated as far out as I can get and still close the action. Will be trying breech seating this spring. Overall fit and finsh is excellent, wish they had used the B-78 trigger!
If the 2005's are like my 2004 model they are winners, just need a little throat work. Mike Smiley Smiley Smiley

MikeT;
Write me direct at:

rmcgee6@cinci.rr.com

and I will forward a copy of my article for a relatively easy "Trigger Fix" for the Browning and Winchester new model 1885's. You too can end up with a nice, clean 2 lb trigger.

Dale53,
Thank You for the very kind offer, have sent you a email with my email address and look forward to getting the article on adjusting the trigger pull.

Want to say that my opinion of the Winchester 1885 is that they are a good value for the money, and the barrel in mine is of excellent quality. MIKE-T

I am looking at one of the new 1885 Winchesters in 45-90...  Can anyone tell me if they go to full cock when the action is opened like the originals, or if they only go to half cock, and must be full cocked before fireing....

Has anyone written a review of one of thess yet???

Buck...

I think retail is around $950. Expect to pay a little more due to short supply, at least for now.

Dale, Will try email again. Thanks
