The Wait is Over---CPA

Last March I ordered a CPA Stevens 44 1/2 and  two weeks ago I went and picked it up at the Shuttleworth's shop It is a model #52 two barrel set. The barrels are a 22rf  Douglas XX and  a Shilen 32-40 1:14. Both barrels are 28". I was able to order the set at CPA's shop and picked out the wood from their selection of blanks. I paid extra for the wood and to me a fancy stock really is worth the bucks. It has both CF and RF breech blocks, both with their own leavers and links so at the range I have fewer small parts to mess with. The butt plate is a Schoyen one prong. The stock was sanded but not finished as I was planning to do the finishing myself. I was REALLY impressed with the fitting of wood to metal and the sanding job was 100% ready for finish. The first coat of finish was Tung Oil as it is thinner and more able to be absorbed into the wood than True Oil that I used for the next 10 coats. While waiting for the rifle to be built I made a muzzle sled (muzzle rest) from 6061 aluminum. I have shot heavy muzzleloading bench guns for the last 20 or so years and I think that a muzzle sled is the best way to control the front end of a barrel on the bench. For iron sights I will be using CPA rear adapter for  Redfield"s internationals and the scope I will use is a 2"-20x Mitchell. I have fitted a Pelican 1700 case for moving the rifle from home to range. The case cost half a arm and leg but it is a small price to pay to protect my investment. Tomorrow it is off to the range to start to get the rifle sighted and dialed in.
Wish me Luck------

Beautiful rifle. Not much luck involved with good equipment just lots of practice and getting to know your rifle so shoot lots of bullets  and shoot often. It will come together.

Great looking outfit.  Excellent finish on the wood.  I know your proud of it.  Old fashion high technology at its best.

Beautiful rifle.  Have almost the same configuration. Use breech seated bullet in 32-40.  I am sure you will smile when you shoot it. It is one of my favorite rifles.
