This whole eclipse BS reminds me of Y2K! There's a lot of people getting rich off propaganda and hype generated simply to make money for those who will profit from it! It's going to last for a few minutes, and maybe an hour from start to finish. I doubt anyone who spends money to drive to the perfect viewing area, and then over pay for a motel will later be feeling like they really got their money's worth!
I also doubt the crowds and traffic jams predicted will really happen. It's across the entire USA, so it's not like everyone showing up at Woodstock! There's plenty of good viewing places across the USA, so this is all scare tactics to generate even more interest, and money!
When it's over everyone will feel just like they did after Y2K. Only difference is the eclipse will actually happen.

You'd think this was 5,000 years ago, and the primitive people were scared of the angry Gods!

Guessing the worst thing you'll encounter is having to turn your headlights on!  Cheesy

Yup, making money is what all the hype is about.  There was one about 30 years ago.  We lived in Colorado then.  No big deal.  It got sort of dark and then lightened up.  Here in Salmon we are supposed to see about 98% coverage.  I've thought about moving the hay out of the barn and renting it out for $400/night with free parking in the horse corral.  Bring your own portapotty.

I saw something about it in the ID Statesman a couple months ago.  They said Weiser or some little berg in that area was supposed to be "the place" to see it. They were planning a multi=day event and expected 20,000. Not sure where Wieser would put up 1,000, much less 20  Cheesy

What a bunch of cynical old farts.
"Christmas bah, humbug"
Have you no interest in viewing the solar corona? (no, it's not beer)
I, for one, will enjoy this cosmic display, safely, with my eclipse glasses. So I spent a buck, big deal. Ain't nothing compared to the cable bill; cheap, if fleeting, entertainment.
Rest of you guys can just take a nap.
Aaron

I will have my solar corona ray bans with me.  I would not want to go blind driving through an eclipse  Grin

I'm just going to sit back and laugh at all the silliness. Same way I did after Y2K!
