Here is my old collection of German schuetzen medals. Most are enameled & have targets. They are from the 1900's.

Thank you for sharing. Do you have info you could share on the medals?

Sorry , I have no further information on the medals. They must have been rewarding to win.

We never see things like that here, either. The whole single shot target rifle era seemed to avoid the western states, other than a little in California. (I may be off there, but not by much)
Thanks for showing your collection to us, they are very nice.

It avoided the western territories.  I doubt there was a sufficient population with time and assets to support shooting sports at that level.

1890's to ww1 Spokane  WA had a active Schuetzen  Club down  on the river.  If you  go to  the  range  the  clubhouse  is still in use.  The  Windows that  they  shot out of  in the winter still face the 200 yard butts. During that period many hooting results from Spokane  were posted on period publications.

Tommy Mason used to hold his matches on that range but did not shoot from the house when I was there.

There were a large number of active schuetzen clubs in Colorado, Denver, Trinidad, Central City, Canyon city, Leadville, Colorado Springs, Salida, Grand Junction, Pueblo, and the list goes on. Likewise in California, in particular the Los Angeles and San Francisco bay area where numerous national shooting events were held. I have an original announcement for the San Francisco international shooting festival, held at Shell Mound Park, August 8th to September 26th, 1915, with $50,00 in prize money, a very substantial amount in 1915. I also have a silver medal for the 1901 third international  shooting festival held in San Francisco. So, as you can see, the west was not excluded, but held many local and international events which were attended by many, if not most of the noted shooters of the time.

45 Govt - That is a very neat photo you have. I don't want to part with the announcement but would be glad to attempt a photo and mail or e-mail it to you. PM me with a reply and contact information.
