That was my thought as well.  I may try again once the weather cools off a bit.  I hate casting when it is almost 90.  I still have to go to work each day....bummer.

I feel for you Jack, you need to come on down here and do your casting, it was 114 last week Sad

I'm lucky, its only 95 in my 3rd floor room where I cast.  (Normally a WINTER activity)

Good time to cast since the lead is already preheated  Grin

Last month tried the 120gr dimple bullets as pictured. Loading was easy and bullets were a tight slip fit in the cases.  Groups at 100 yards were minute of 55 gallon drum. Next day tried these little buggers Pat Bowland provided. Groups were much improved. About three inches. Just got a new Lee #20 lead pot for a dedicated hard lead pot. Next step is to remove the gas check from my mold and cast hard bullets.

Half Linotype half wheel weights?

Remind me when you stop by.  I have some 115gr Lyman 258231 plain base FN hard cast bullets that I got from Western Bullet.  You can have then if you want.  There is a Jeep transmission that goes with them.

Took the GC out of the mold. Cast bullets half lino half Lyman #2. Bullets measure .260. To big to fit in the cases. Now have to sized them down to just below the dimples.  This is fun!   Undecided

The plot thickens. Found out my bullet sizer stop doesn't have enough travel to work with my bullets. Have to make a new one.  Neat!

Joe,
FFT...
Slot the die part way so it sizes it the whole way. You'd have a dimple and ridge above it, what would they sound and perform like with tiny fins then?

Fluxing? I use a cast iron skillet on a gas burner outside, get my mix right in larger quantities, flux before pouring into ingots with paraffin stirring well with a dowel, all I do then when casting is stir occasionally.   Pouring 10 - 20 lbs from a hot skillet is a workout.

Already have that mold, Jack, thanks.

GT, got it covered. Super glued a piece of 1/2 DR onto the end of the existing stop.

Works good. Perfect slip fit. Sized up to the dimples.   Assuming my old standby lube will work.
