2018 Schuetzen match?
Sep 3rd, 2017 at 9:49am
Print Post
So I was wondering how much support and attendance we would get if we planned a 2-3 day scheutzen match in August of 2018 at our range in southeast Wyoming?  I would make it a state match level and have good facilities and offer a variety of matches.  Thanks for any input, Cody

You could likely pick up a few shooters if you schedule your match a coupl'a days after the ISSA Schuetzenfest. Where in your area would a shooter find lodging for the event?
ASSRA, ISSA or WSU rules?

It would be nice to see another ASSRA match in the western part of The United States.

I have wanted to do this for a few years but we just haven't had time and have had other projects that took precedence. We have a 80 foot concrete firing line that has a 24ft wide covering over it.  We also have  a 24x36 clubhouse.  Our Smithmoor Range facebook page has lots and lots of pictures.  This year we hosted a couple of larger matches, including the Rocky Mountain Regional 22 BPCR match where we filled up with 48 shooters.  It is a standard 500 meter silhouette range, but we adapted it to 22 BPCR and I think I could easily adapt it to schuetzen.  I was thinking the second weekend in August of 18.  As far as rules, we have always been WSU guys, but in the interest of moving forward and trying to grow our sport, we would probably run under ASSRA authority.  In the end, it all comes down to participation.  If we can get 12-24 people to come, it will be great and worthwhile.  Less than 8 or so and I must direct the resources back to silhouette where we have great support.  I sincerely appreciate the input and ideas, Cody

Cheyenne (60k pop) is 23 miles up a nice paved road and has quite a number of nice, new hotels and restaurants.  Fort Collins (165k pop and about 1 million in the area) has nearly endless hotels and restaurants.  It is about 70 miles or a little over an hour away. There is also plenty of room for camping on the range.

Cody,
You run a top notch program up there. I think you would get your desired showing no problem.

Cody,
I am south of Denver and would certainly come.
Might try to convince some friends to join me.
Would need time to reload from Raton

Cody it may help also to come up with an outline of what the matches would be? Are they shoulder to shoulder, Reentry, etc. Just a thought

That is what I was hoping for, folks to chime in that they would be interested in coming.  Thank you!

As far as matches, I am open to suggestions, but was thinking bench and offhand rimfire and centerfire, as well as a king and maybe offer a Hudson.  I wanted to run it like an old time match where you were assigned a bench and could shoot whatever match you wanted whenever you wanted inside the two days.

Cody,

I would be interested. Being about 3 hours away in Colorado and having the ability to camp would make it a good possibility for me. It would be a great opportunity to meet other shooters in the area. I will pass this on to people that my be interested.

That would be a nice addition to a Raton trip.  Not a sure thing.  Depends on how other family adventures shape up next summer.

I can only say that I would like to go but, if I attend Raton, I'm not sure that I could afford WY. If Raton falls through, I would attend.

So, I would be a maybe.

Cody, I know a few shooters in eastern Montana that would come to your match if they did not conflict with a couple of matches we have in August.  The matches we attend are on weekends of the 2nd and 4th Sunday's.  It would be great to see more Schuetzen activity!!!
