Tom Nichols, author of Death of Expertise, commented on ABC saying the focus on self confidence as the most important thing in the classroom for the last 40 years has lead to the narcissistic society that is destroying our republic.  Anything that makes one feel bad is taboo. The latest focus on Confederate statues seems to be a glaring example.

I think there's a big difference between self confidence and feeling good. It's probably related to the latest focus, if it gets a little traction, then the folks who control tv time will sell it as news. 'We' broke up things like ma bell because it was a so called monopoly. Our future generations feel good when they tune into social media and search monopolies for the news that makes them feel good. Are you sure the left wants self confident sheeple?

The left wants aggressive whiners. They do not want people full of confidence, as those people aren't easily molded and shaped to their molds.

I think he said self esteem.  The gist of the comment was the whole never feel bad, everyone wins every time, gold medals all around for participation program coupled with anything wrong is always somebody else's fault and no personal responsibility.

I think that the statement is proven when College students need safe spaces when confronted with an idea they donít agree with. Last weekend an entire rally was called off over a banana peel was found in a tree!
