Sundays, or while waiting out a huge hurricane, making a succulent meatloaf just seems right.

It looks good but I'll bet it won't come close to one made out of moose burger!

The season opens this Friday and I'll be hot on their trail.

I worked with a guy who grew up in Alaska. Told us he and his brother always used a BB gun to kill moose.

I partook in a Moose roast once in Utah. It was wrapped with beef fat when it went in the oven. Pretty dry. Since have been told it needs to be cooked slow. Buffalo is my favorite. My meatloaf turned out real good. Only thing better than meatloaf is meatloaf sandwiches the next day.

My mom made great meatloaf. Liver and onions. Can't find a restaurant serving ML or a store selling liver these days.

A sling shot would work the way Dave did it.

Slingshot?  You had a slingshot?  I used a rock... while barefoot, in a snowstorm.  Yeah, barefoot in a snowstorm.  Rock didn't kill it, broke it's neck when it ran away and its antlers caught in a branch.  Didn't read the wind correctly.  Geez, it's hard skinning them with a flint knife. WOW,  you guys had all the modern conveniences, slingshot, BB gun, rock, flint knife,  first moose I got she tried stomping me, had to do her in with my bare hands and some judo. Broke her back and really had a tough time getting to her jugular, their hide is thick and it tastes bad... glad I didn't have false ones then.  Wink

That's my first lie on this forum, I really used "enough gun" on my first one.  Made a lot of meat loaf with her...

By the time I took my first one barehanded, I was so hungry I ate it all right there. Sure missed making that meatloaf.
(This is my first lie here as well)

I told the BB gun Moose hunting story once before here. Think it was in 06.

Another guy I worked with who was from Alaska told me that his family shot a Moose every year in the same exact spot. Said they would wait for a Moose to walk between the same two trees where they had rigging hanging from the two trees. Construction workers are the worst liars in the world. I learned not to lie from listening to their lies. I don't mind repeating their lies if they're good ones.

Reminds me of a joke I once heard regarding a Scottsman visiting a building in Alaska that had a moose head on the wall.
He asked what it was and on being told that it was a Moose said, that if that's a Moose, how big are your f'ing cats.

you guys are a bunch of wimps
I killed my first Florida moose, the worlds largest, by just staring him down.
One look and he skinned himself, built a dutch oven, and popped right in.

Found it. Man that was a long time ago. Eleven years.

I was working with a fellow who grew up in Alaska. One dayAt lunch we started talking about moose hunting. We didnt know Dave was from Alaska. Of coarse the subject of caliber came up, Dave rolled his eyes. I asked him what was wrong? He blurted out, you dont need no damned 338 to kill a moose! You can kill one with a bbgun. We laughed. A couple days later I couldnt stand it. I asked him, ok, how do you kill a moose with a bbgun? He said when he was a kid , he and his little brother killed lots of moose with a bbgun. How I asked. He said you hide in the bushes next to a pond where you know a moose will feed in. When a bull moose shows up and he's in the pond you wait till he's pointing away from you . Then sneak up close as close as you can. He said bb placement is the key here. Aim directly for the b_ _ _ s. When the moose has his head in the water you shoot. This causes him to hump up and suck air, but since his head is under water he drowns. Thats how you kill moose with a bbgun.  I think dave was yarnin me but as he was quite old I didnt dare doubt an elder. Id like to try it with a zimmershootzen.    Joe.
