He still as far as I know still does business and just hasn't the time to keep up his Web site. A friend here did some horse trading with him awhile back but he also had to call and see if by chance he had the scope he was looking for of which he did and they were able to cut a deal.

Looks like Alexweb.net is a hosting service.  At least one other website.  Probably of interest to Westerner.

Not unusual for a web site to be obsolete. It's pretty common, and I doubt most people get too worked up over it, or depend on one resource when they're looking for info. Heck, look at Ballard Rifle Co.! We've all known they've been closed for years, and it still comes up about twice a year when somebody asks a question about them or their  web site.

Alex's Web Site has not been updated for years nor has what he has listed for sale and I would not use it for a reference if trying to sell an item all though it used to be a pretty reliable source at one time.

Why the hell hasn't he killed it?  These "live for ever" websites are a constant source of confusion & misinformation. The Cody Ballard site is another.  Ought to be a heavy legal penalty for failing to take down defunct websites.

You saying there's a lot of mis-information on the internet?    Grin

I have been retired 4 years and I'm still out there.  I have no idea how to get off.  No money in taking things off.  In 100 years there will be so much garbage on the www it will become useless  Grin

His web site is a valuable source of information on Unertl and Lyman scopes. He has information that is had to find unless you have a lot of old catalogues on hand. Sure the for sale section is out of date but that is not the most important part of the site.

How much of the info on the internet actually is accurate? How many are being fooled?    Grin

Not hard to delete a web site if you are the hosting company who has access to the actual servers whether they are local or on a cloud service.  Just takes a bit of time.  Easy to break as well.  Just delete one key file in the folder for the top level of the site and you can take it down.  Have done it a few times at work but not always on purpose.  I am not a web content guy buy I do have admin rights to most all of WA State DOT's servers.  I try not to crash them too often especially the public facing ones.

Probably the guy next to me.  He does most of the file servers.  HQ or a region? I just have to fix what he breaks.  I think typewriters and drafting tables should make a comeback.

Good grief.  Did people remove their old gun shop ads from old magazines when they went out of business?  No.  The internet is a huge magazine or bulletin board in the sky.  Crying for people to "clean up" what they wrote years ago is not realistic.  There is a Mossberg reference site I go to who's owner died years ago.  Like an old magazine, it's still there to look at if you pick it up.
