Upcoming auction w/ a few single shot rifles ...
Jan 10th, 2019 at 6:56pm
Print Post
There is an upcoming auction in Glendora, California on February 2nd that includes a few single shot rifles.  You might want to have a quick look at lot numbers: 183, 184, 186, 219, 220, 225, 229, 230, 234, 235, 236, 237, 240, 241, 274 and 275.  I deny all responsibility if you go crazy and buy any of these rifles ... it's all on you!     Grin

Here is the link for the auction:

Gee, I hate you. Just as I was saving a little. Too bad about the 19% auction fee. They are tempting

Made through the entire 40 pages without once placing a bid, those Guns Anonymous meetings are finally beginning to pay off.

I would have bid on that rolling block but the dang refinished stock kills it for me.  Looks like all the old singleshots got refinished. Some of them look like they were really nice guns and in good shape before hand.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

That Rigby style #7 Long Range in .45-90 is drop dead gorgeous! As is the Rolling Block Creedmoor in .44 caliber. Likely a .44-77SBN or .44-90SBN. Restored guns, but they both are way above my pay grade.
Sure enjoy looking at them though!

The ballard was my favorite gun of the lot.

Keep an eye on them ... you never know what they'll sell for being an auction.  I've been watching most of the Canadian based auctions that Switzer lists and have stumbled into some bargains there I bought for reasonable prices.  That last High Wall I bought with the Unertl on it that only cost me $625 (Canadian) plus 15% auction fees and shipping costs, so in the end I bought the Unertl scope at retail and got the rifle for free ...

If that Ballard #7 doesn't go up around $6,000 or more I'll be surprised. And the Rolling Block Creedmoor should go at  $4,000 I'd guess.

I'd love to own that Axtell 1877, but I'm in the selling and not buying mode.

I bet that rolling block goes for significantly below $3500. I turned down two creedmoors that were as nice but without the refinished stocks for 4k this year one was at Denver and I don't think sold during the show.

I looked at a number of Remington Creedmoors at Denver also. Someday I'll own one if the price is right, and it's not messed with, or a fake.

The single shots are from the late Dave Garman collection. He and his partner built the Arcadia Sharps in the 1970's.
