The best product I have used was  "Nikolas baking lacquer" it can be found on line and when applied nothing will touch it for years.

[quote author=72627F7F7B7975100 link=1557167899/8#8 date=1557361323]JS,

Did you use gloss or semi gloss?

I don't think there's a choice. It can be glossy or semi-gloss depending on how it's applied. I use a piece of the blue Scott shop towel to wipe it on and off to get the finish I want. It takes a little practice but it's pretty easy and I use it on stocks as well.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

No, Wipe On Poly comes in gloss or satin, but gloss is getting tougher to find for whatever reason. Last can I bought had to go to a specialty woodcrafting store to buy it. Still wasn't bad priced for a qt. can at around $12.

I used the satin on my Schoyen Ballard.

Thanks all!  Just coated the receiver with Wipe on Poly in gloss.  I think it looks pretty good.  I used a piece of a micro fiber towel, worked ok.
