Procedure For Shooting A Ballard?

I was told that when shooting a Ballard rifle that you should not drop the lever if the hammer is cocked because something could break? Is this true? Also, is it safe to dry fire a rifle that has double set triggers without doing any damage to the trigger if you have the hammer down? Thanks. Bob

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

YES! The hammer, sear, or trigger (depending on whether it's single or double set triggers) can break if opening the lever with the hammer at full cock!!

Setting and tripping the triggers with the hammer down is fine. It's the best way to set the adjustment and test the feel of the triggers.
