F/S - RARE Stevens Ideal Model 45 - 22LR c1898
J. Stevens A&T Co. Pat. Oct 29.89 - Model 45  (note the earlier pat. date!)
c 1889-1898 – (likely 1896 or 1897)
Chambered 22 LR

"Bidding has begun! - Last chance to get in on this one!"  Good Luck!
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Starting price is $1250 + shipping.

Lots of special features, and a RARE combination.

No.1 Barrel (was an optional lighter barrel!)
28” Half Octagon (longer than the typical 26”)
Swiss Buttplate (another option)
Special order 6A “Hammer with Set Screw”
Lyman Beach Ivory Bead Sight (Original Ivory still intact) Combination flip sight
Mid-Range Vernier Tang Peep sight, with elevation thumb screw – BUT no windage
7 o’clock extractor
1.25 lbs trigger pull
Numbers matching Receiver, barrel and buttplate

+ Shipping to your FFL. (will insure shipping with passthru cost).
Payment is USPS Money Order.
US only - make sure you are good with your local laws!

It is stamped "45" and "0" on the end of the action (behind the foregrip).
The Barrel has "11XXX" and "1" on it, and does not look to be a pope barrel, but a lighter weight "No 1" version.
28" long. (not the standard 26") Half octagon. (so longer and lighter than normal).

Front site looks to be a "Beach Combination" flip sight with ivory post and looped pin bead.
(Lyman No.5) - with pat info stamped into outer ring (ending in JJLY14.91)

Rear site is a tang, which appears to be original, Stevens model (like a #104 or #108) WITH a thumb screw, but NO wind-age, and a fixed .050 eyecup. (so, a cross between a 100 and a 104)

Action is an older Model 44, with the curved mainspring, and a "7'oclock" extractor. Single trigger - not Double Set Trigger.

My best guess so far is that based on the stamping and combination of barrel, action, and sights - that it should date about 1889-1894 for manufacture (sometime after 1889 but before 1900 (or even before Apr. 17, 1894).
--Using the logic that if it was manufactured post 1894 - then the barrel would NOT have the Oct.29.89 patent stamping.)

Straight stock - no pistol grip!.

She is a bit of an "Odd Duck" for the higher end Model 45, but on an older 44 action, with lighter barrel, swiss butt, improved but not top end sights and single trigger w/ special hammer.
Very good stock, Good color overall - tight action!

Features and s/n place it around 1897 or 1898.  Barrel rollstamp is an anomaly.  Might not be the original barrel.

Replacement barrels fitted at the factory were numbered to match the receiver, so matching number doesn't guarantee that the barrel is original.  Neither here nor there now.  It's a Stevens barrel and that's what counts.  Curious that it was apparently made years before the rest of the gun.

If I had to guess - and that's all I can really do here, Since it's a 28" (longer than standard), #1 (lighter then standard) - it would not have been a popular combination.

That's what make's this piece special.

Longer, lighter barrel, with an optional set screw in the hammer to lighter the trigger pull (BUT not DST) - Swiss buttplate, and upgraded sights.

Whoever ordered this piece, did so with accuracy and function in mind!
It is certainly not an "average" build - and that's what is special about her.

For my education, what use is the screw on top of the hammer?

It limited the depth of engagement of the sear.  Made for an adjustable trigger pull.

added the starting price back in.

(I had lifted it, only because the GB auction had received a bid - sorry about that).

There is an active bid on GB now.
I will honor that bid, and not pull the auction for a matching bid.

If you would like to, you can go bid, or PM a better offer, and we can discuss.
