I am not certain that we have ever posted the match schedule for the ASSRA National Matches. I think this listing will be handy for those contemplating their first trip to our club’s home turf. If your trip requires long range planning please note that the Spring Match is held on the Thursday through Sunday Noon ending the day before Memorial Day. The Summer Match is held on the first Thursday through Sunday Noon following the 4th of July. The Fall Match is held on the Thursday through Sunday Noon ending the day before Labor Day. Now for an explanation of the names:

Benchrest Matches.
Unlimited Re-entry Matches (Spring, Summer, Fall)
Kelly Match: 5 shots for smallest group size on the No. 6 target
Schoyen Match: 10 shots for best score on target No. 5
Brockway Match: 10 shots for best score with Iron Sights on target No. 4

Single entry Matches
.22 Rim fire Match:  10 shots for best score on target No. 3 (Spring, Summer, Fall)
Benchrest Championship Match: 2 X 10 shots for score fired on each of the 4 match days (80 shots total) on the No. 5 target (Spring, Summer, Fall)
Bartlett Match: 5 X 5 shot groups (25 shots total) on the No 6 target (Summer)
Rowland Match: 10 shot group on the No. 6 target (Spring)
Beeson Match: 10 shots for score on the No. 1 target (Summer)
Ten Shot Group: 10 shot group on the No. 6 target (Fall)
Ten Shot Score: 10 shot score on the No. 5 target (Fall)

Offhand Matches
Unlimited Re-entry Matches (Spring, Summer, Fall)
May Match: 10 shots for best score on the No. 3 target
Burch/ McCoy Match: The Burch portion is 3 Shots for score on the No. 3 target. The McCoy portion is the best center shot of the 3.
Zischang Match: 10 shots for best score on the No. 4 target (iron sights)
.22 RF Offhand Match: 10 (2X5) shots on the No. 8 target for score held at 50 yards
.22 RF Stitch Match: 6 shots on the No. 7 target for best center held at 50 yards

Single entry Matches
Hudson Match: 100 (10X10) shots for score at the No. 3 target (Spring, Summer, Fall)
Hill Match: 10 shots for best score at the No. 3 target (Summer)
Niedner Match: 20 shots for best score at the No. 3 target (Fall)
Buffalo Matches (Fall) - Shot from cross-sticks with rifles of .40 caliber or more.

Unlimited Re-entry Matches
Traditional Buffalo Match: 10 shots for best score on the No. 4 target (only black side) (traditional rifle, traditional iron sights, fixed ammo) (pre 1900)
Iron Sight Buffalo Match: 10 shots for best score on the No.3 or 4 target (iron sights)
Any Sight Buffalo Match: 10 shots for best score on the No.3 or 4 target (any sights)

Today all matches are shot at 200 yards unless specified. All matches are any sight and center fire only, unless stated. All matches are reentry unless specified. Re-entry means that you can buy more then one target for each match and fire it over and over until you are happy with what you’ve shot. In real life most people buy several targets at once. In other words you may have 3 or 6 Group (Kelly), or Bench Rest score (Schoyen), or any combination of other targets hanging on your target frame at the same time. Your target frame will be a 4-foot square of white corrugated plastic. There is a 2-foot space between frames.
The Feature matches are generally held on Saturday. The relay selected for these matches will be posted at the target sales bench. The other single entry matches that are shot at every gathering can be fired at any time.
Our matches are not staged. Except for the Specialty Matches, you may shoot any match at any time, usually as often as you like. We run relays for 45 minutes with approx. 15 minutes in between for a target change. We begin at 7:30 A.M. and run 10 relays per day except Sunday. You will also be interested to know our matches are not “squaded”. Yep, you can set up on a bench and stay there all weekend if you like. We have fifty benches. That is enough benches so everyone can have their own.
Besides these official matches there are a few unofficial matches. At every gathering we hold a “Mini Hudson” This is a single entry 100 shot offhand match for .22 RF. It is held at 100 yards. We pay a portion of the match proceeds to the top 3 shooters.
At the Fall Match we hold the “Old Timers Match”. This match was developed by the late Jake Simmons, famed for his Pope re and decappers. You need to be 65 or older to shoot. The match is a single entry 200 yard 5 shot string match, bench rest. It is shot the last relay of the day. There is a traveling trophy.
During the Summer Match we hold the Quarter Bore Corps Matches. These matches are for traditional American .25 caliber center fire rifles in traditional calibers. For these matches we shoot in the club’s regular Kelly, Schoyen and May matches and give a traveling trophy for the best score shot in each with a Traditional .25 caliber rifle. Lately we have also held a .25 caliber version of the Brockway and Zischang matches. The targets shot in the Quarter Bore Corps matches are also eligible for the awards of the regular matches. Indeed, a few years ago Wayne Vietz won both the Schoyen and the QBC Schoyen with a 250.
On arrival at the Beeson Range as the ASSRA National Range is called, you will notice a neat metal club house with a number of cars and campers parked around it. There are about 20 spots available for campers. Most have electric and water hook ups. Many shooters arrive as early as Monday or Tuesday before the match so they can get in some practice. There is a nice 3 position bathroom including an ADA accessible bathroom complete with ADA accessible shower.

WOW!  Best & most informative post ever.  Great job John Merz.
Sincere thanks.

PS - Can this be kept under "Important Topics" as a "sticky"?

OOPS. John I just noticed the Buffalo Matches and I think there have been some changes. I think there was also a 10 shot class 2 match at every match proposed. I don't know what happened with that. Maybe Jeff Schultz can help us with this.
I'll PM him.

  A few small corrections:
We no longer shoot the "Traditional Buffalo" match due to lack of participants. It was replaced by the "Class II" (40cal+) re-entry score match shot at all the matches.
The first relay of the day begins at 8:00.

And under Single Entry Matches. The 22 bench match is the best out of 3 targets.

Needless to say .................. Any "Sticky" should be current at the time of publication. Otherwise, it's a waste of time and effort.

What are the weekends for the rim fire matches?  Are they based on National Holidays, Phases of the Moon, Solstice and Equinox, or what?  Is there consistency year to year, or is this a floating date situation.  I am asking this because I want to reestablish the old Chinquapin match dates for end of September.
