Have a Ballard in 40 2.25" barrelled/chambered by B. Darr with matching mould of 380 grains. Came with a standard push type breach seater.

It currently is being shot with black, but would welcome some suggested smokeless starting loads.

I am using about 18. 5 grains by weight of 4227 in my 40-70 with a darr 375 gr bullet. I am getting excellent results.

I use 18 grains of 4759. I know you cannot buy it in a gun shop but I happen to have a large supply. It doesn't burn very clean but it does the job. I don't mind pushing a patch down the barrel between shots.

I have a 40-60 also and am interested in the suggested loads-- are the above listed powder charges for breech seated or fixed ammo;  if the former would i drop the charge a grain for so for fixed ammo? thanks
