best synthetic steel wool for polishing brass

I have some synthetic scrubbing pads that I use to manually clean brass but is is too abrasive to give a high polish. After reading the reviews of the 3M 0000 synthetic product , many reviews said it did not work too well on metal.
Can anyone recommend a syntetic replacement for 0000 steel wool?
Thanks!

Use polishing rouge or even auto rubbing compound and see it it will improve on the 'wool'.  Hope it helps.

Fine bronze wool combined with a little Simichrome has always worked well for me on brass, bronze, copper and similar - but not aluminum or pewter.

I think you may be using the wrong grade of the 3M pads. They make a grey one that is very fine and if you rub your fingers across it feels very smooth. I've used I don't know how many packs of 4/0 steel wool cleaning the crud off case necks, tarnish spots stuff like that off brass. I even use it when cleaning spent artillary shells with the black crud inside them. Wet the pad well with naval jelly and scrub away. Rinse with water and see if you missed anything. Frank

Get the white pads it will take off carbon but leave the patina on the brass.

I've used Brasso on a cloth pad or white 3M pad to clean brass that I mount on a spinner in my drill press. It puts a nice shine on the cases. I support the base of the case with grey 3M.
