Stevens Sure shot and little krag

I know that these boys rifles are fairly scarce,do any of you own any of these?
I have seen a few Sure shots for sale in the recent past, but even fewer little krags for sale. I do own examples of both, but neither are in the best of condition. Any information on these rifles would be of interest.
There is a Sure shot on gunbroker right now if anyone is interested, but is in pretty rough condition.

The Sure Shot, Little Krag, and Maynard Jr. were collectively probably the worst boy's rifles that Stevens produced and the least popular.  But at least the Sure Shot 's build quality was high and its mechanism interesting, as I learned when I got to play with a very nice and still functional one owned by a collector friend.

The one on Gunbroker could be saved, and some would say $250 is a bargain for this particular gun.  But the seller doesn't realize that the notorious "swing arm" mechanism is what works the extractor, now apparently frozen inside the barrel.  Even if well-repaired, that mechanism will remain the gun's very weak point.

Much as I am addicted to boys' rifles, and Stevens in particular, I think I'll pass.

Gotta wonder why the company even brought out the Sure Shot, since it was exactly contemporaneous with the far better Favorite.   Roll Eyes

Not at all surprising that as soon as Irving Page took over it was given its' quietus.

Thanks John Boy for the link, good read.

I agree, the Sure Shot that's on gunbroker could be saved,if I were to win it,I would just try to clean it up a little without ruining the patina, there's lots of patina. I am tempted to bid on it just for the stock,as my Sure Shot has a pretty good crack in the buttstock.

Looks like it has a repair at the wrist with a thru bolt,so I guess I'll pass. Smiley
