Primer Shortage

I got a link to this article from Powder Valley that explains the primer supply issue.

I may have to switch to expensive Ely .22 ammo.  Killough Sports seems to have that available.  Plinking at dollar store ping pong balls at 200 yds is a satisfying experience.

Can't beat a flintlock in times like these.   Flint can be found for free in most parts of the country.   Have to admit though, that I do like my Sharps.   Last time there was a run on primers, percussion caps seemed to disappear too.   When they came back they rated a hazmat shipping charge.   Last time I looked here (Salmon, Idaho) #11 caps were $13/100!!!   Ridiculous.   Fortunately I don't use a lot of them and probably got a lifetime supply back in the '70s and '80s.

While "sequestered" these next months, I plan on building a 36 caliber flintlock for plinking.   All my other flintlocks are big bore.

Have been shooting my matchlocks, wheellock and flintlocks with abandon ... was the only one at the range today, on a beautiful day ... and this is a high power club!!!!!

All of my single shots shoot one tiny ragged hole with cast bullets ... it's just the following shots that tend to open up my groups Wink ...

AK and AR owners won't be able to afford multiple "mag dumps" at the range just for kicks anymore.  They'll have to start thinking like us single-shot shooters.   Cool

Socialist politicians and old age prompted me to buy a lifetime's supply of a lot of stuff years ago, starting back when Slick Willy was still around.  Then a good friend made the same purchases.  He died and his wife gave all his stuff to me.

I think this has been raised before.

At my age, a "lifetime" supply gets smaller each year.

I bought another air rifle about 18 months ago, just because I wanted a more accurate air rifle to practice with over the winter. I've been shooting it much more than I thought I would, mainly because I want to ration my primer stock. I've got plenty of primers, but without knowing when they will get back to full production I'm not shooting a bunch of them up either.

The other day my wife was face timing with a couple of the grandkids, and they want to go shooting 22s over Christmas visit. They have no clue it's like throwing away a brick or two of gold, always worth every penny. I'll take an old Daisy along, the kids are still young, but I doubt it'll get much use.

Air rifle? Once the new administration learns that air can be used to propel a projectile out of a barrel it will likely be taxed or banned.  Roll Eyes
