Chinquapin Date Change

Well, Chinquapinners I just got a surprise.  Brushy Mtn Club has scheduled a huge Sporting Clays (shotgun) tournament for the weekend of our June event and we've been bumped.

They also have their 4th of July Skeet Tournament scheduled for the following weekend, so the closest we can get would be the preceding weekend (18 & 19 June.)  If I can get that weekend OK'd would this work for enough of you to make it worthwhile?  I really need about 6-8 shooters or more each day to make it worthwhile to set this thing up, so please let me know ASAP if you are interested so I can get the new dates approved.

I apologize for the change, but it was beyond my control, and just now dropped on me.

With e-mail and this response, we can have three shooters so far... can I hear from a few more of you?  I sent an e-mail out from my list, but a bunch came back undeliverable.  If any of you are in touch with any of the other regular shooters, you might reach out to them and ask.

Thanks ~ Froggie

Wonderful planning. The earlier date makes plenty of time to prepare for the E.G. Summer Matches.

I'm in !

OK guys, we’re up to six solid positive responses... I’ll finalize it with Brushy Mtn Club and send out a confirmation to my e-mail list as well as posting it here.

Charlie,
Thank you so much for your continuing efforts. Without dedicated members like yourself, ASSRA will die.  Same is true that members and shooters must support events. Witness the recent demise of the Florida Schuetzen Society and the Western Carolina Schuetzen Society.

It’s official!  I talked to the acting President of BMC late yesterday afternoon and we now “own” the third weekend in June (the 18th and 19th) as our new date for the June 2021 Chinquapin Schuetzenfest. I’ll get out details soon, but mark that date... it’s for certain (unless something changes!  Roll Eyes )

If we are going to make arrangements for anything but the most rudimentary of lunches, I’ll need some fairly firm commitments to know how much to prepare.  Can I get some more responses by say, early May?  So far I have the four of you who have responded on this thread plus two more, and about 3-4 “maybes”. We can easily accommodate 10-12 all day each day and do some creative squadding if more slots are needed.

For those traveling a significant distance and those who plan to obtain motel accommodations, “squadding” might temper the enthusiasm. Firing half the relays and moving all the paraphernalia multiple times doesn’t hold the same enchantment as a day of relaxed shooting.

How would it be if you accept reservations with range fees paid in full no later than June 1st? Perhaps even include some number of pre-paid targets to make the reservation fee more significant. No refunds for no shows.  An announcement in this forum the following day could inform the “maybes” of open benches.

I’d be happy to supply the brats.

So far, the prospect of requiring squadding is very remote.  I truly don't think this will be a concern in the foreseeable future.

What we did at Charlie Dell's in the original iteration of Chinquapin SV was to have a loading area where people had their gear set up then the 4-6 (depending on how we were placed) shooting positions were yours for a relay or two at a time.  This worked well for us back then, but again, I don't think we ever had more than 10-12 shooters at a "big event."

If grilled brats are what enough of us want, I'll check into either setting up the club's big gas grille or bringing a large enough charcoal grille in to do this, but it will be a lot of work for somebody, probably yours truly.  Another possibility might be making them in a slow cooker with sauerkraut... that still would be sort of Germanic.  Wink

Froggie,

Thank you for continuing Charlie Dell’s tradition.  Obviously that entails responsibility and work.

Brats are a hardly the primary attraction of the event for me. I can bring a snack as can anyone who wants to be there. Please keep us posted as interest increases or wanes.
