Evidently I now have a Martini Schuetzen

I am apparently the high bidder on this rifle.   Not sure what I have got myself into Smiley

From the website description:

Grhert Hofhurhsmacher Munrhen Model Schuetzen Martini Style, Consignor indicates 8.15 X 46R Cal., But barrel marked 30-40, MFG. 1920's, SN:173 as marked on underside of barrel, Lever Action Rifle, 30'' Octagon barrel. There are numerous small proof stampings on receiver. The stamping on the barrel translates to ''Karl Gebert Royal Gunsmith Munich''. The factory walnut stock carries a large undercut cheekpiece & a Schuetzen prong style buttplate. The wedge-fastened forend has no checkering, but beavertail cheeks. The stocks are very good & solid, despite having several long, but tight grain cracks. There are some minor scratches & contusions. The metal finish on barrel has toned to a nice even chocolate brown, with some minor scratches & abrasions or edge wear. The receiver carries smokey outlines of faded case-colors & remaining colors on the lower tang, in protected areas & on internal parts. The large spur & scroll lever drops the lock & block & also displays some faded case-colors. The tang is fitted with a unique large disk peep sight, with key locking base (key included). Barrel also incorporates a wider milled rib for potential scope or rear sight mounting, while the front of barrel carries a globe front sight. The underside of barrel carries the 173 possible SN, additionally 172/28 & several proof stampings. Bore is excellent. Double set triggers & a removable trigger housing. Barrel Rifle carries a lower slotted rib which may have at one time held a cleaning rod. This is a fine, hand crafted & custom built target rifle

Very nice, voice of experience here, do a chamber cast. I bought a martini on line, the seller stated it was an8.15x46.
The first round I fired came out mangled. It had been rechambered to 32Win. Spcl. Enjoy, love that tang sight. Post more photos when you get it.

Looks like a pretty neat old rifle Jack. Wonder if the rear sight is original, or one of Ron Heilman's fine repros?

Based on past purchases from Ward's Collectibles, it may be 3 weeks or so before I get it.  Not enough time to verify chambering and loading up some ammo to make it to this year's German rifle match at the NW regional ISSA match in Spokane but I will be ready next time!

I hope so.  I have been keeping my eye out for one for a while and finally found one at a price that I can justify.  Heck, it was cheap enough that I actually told my wife about it.  Smiley

When will you acquire a percussion Schuetzen rifle, Jack?  You have a lot of catching up to do.  Roll Eyes

Nice Martini style rifle by the way.  Smiley

If the primer shortage continues I may need a muzzle loader flintlock.

We could even make some from petrified wood. Give your rifle a woody!
